The rise of Laguna Village 2.0; “Laguna” by Grupo Pacha

In the summer of 2020, Laguna Village suffered a devastating fire. It destroyed the entire beach club and shopping centre, with only the pool being salvaged. This was a personal favourite of mine ever since we moved to Estepona nearly 16 years ago. It quickly became one of my family’s regulars and we celebrated almost every birthday here over the years. Safe to say it was a very sad day for us and Estepona!

Fast forward two years and “Laguna” is rising once again. In July of last year, the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano laid the first stone of the new tourism and commercial complex.

GAT Inversiones and Grupo Pacha acquired the Laguna Village shopping centre at the end of 2019 from the Swiss-German group Sauer, with the aim of building one of the largest tourist complexes in southern Spain. It will be a unique, first of its kind development that spans 13,000 square metres and will generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

This incredible new tourism and commercial complex will feature a beach club, multiple restaurants, shops, a yacht club and 1,200 square metre beachfront. Scheduled to finish later this year, Laguna is set to become a symbol of luxury in Estepona and a benchmark for Spanish tourism.

The project will place sustainability at the forefront with an innovative architectural proposal that respects the environment, takes into account energy efficiency and seeks to blend in with the surroundings through the use of natural wood and stone.

As heartbroken as we were and as much as I miss Puro Beach, we’re also incredibly excited for this new development and the promise it brings to the beautiful town of Estepona. Check back here for updates and reviews!
